Student issues: The Associate Dean becomes involved in a wide range of student, staff and faculty issues. Involvement ranges from just being notified to taking the lead in resolving the issue. Often CALS Director of HR and University OAID Director are involved. The Dean should be notified on major issues; some of which are brought to the DD meetings.
New Programs: Creation of new programs is generally a departmentally-initiated and driven function. However, the Associate Dean will need to stay involved to keep the process moving and also coordinates submission of requests to the Dean’s Council. The Dean is kept informed and provided with key talking points as needed. Easiest to keep a list of new programs and periodically check to see where each one is at and what is needed to keep it moving forward in the approval process.
Budget: Work with College Business Office to maintain AP accounts in the positive and oversee accounts for AGI, CALS IT, CALS Diversity and Inclusion, and CALS International Programs. CALS Business Office liaison sends monthly account updates. Meet regularly (every 1 to 2 months) with CALS Business Office liaison to go over accounts. See separate documents listing accounts (numbers and descriptions) and phases.
Management: Oversee Academic Program office and work with appropriate directors of Agricultural Institute, Diversity and Inclusion, International Programs and CALS IT.
