Assistant Director of Academic Programs and Director of the Agricultural Institute
Overall Responsibilities
- Monitoring the Agricultural Institute program for accreditation purposes
- Budgeting for AGI- 2 and 6 account
- New and transfer student recruitment and retention and graduate employment rate
- Curriculum development and evaluation.
- The accountability and administration of Education and Technology Funds received by the College
- Development, delivery, and evaluation of the college-wide teaching effectiveness (committee?) and academic awards programs.
- The successful candidate also will be expected to assist with interpretations of academic policies, monitoring institutional effectiveness, updating strategic planning efforts, and helping with preparation of outside funding proposals.
- Participating in the freshman orientation class (ALS 103); teaching the Agricultural Institute new student orientation class (AGI 101); coordinating with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to participate in the Ag. Perspectives & Opportunity class.
- Serving on a variety of committees and advising students also are important activities associated with this position.
Student issues – Keep informed about students of concern in AGI. Work closely with advisers and faculty to identify students who have multiple absences. Respond to parent concerns if FAFSA is in place. Assign extra mentors if appropriate as well as tutoring services in the AGI office. Maintain a small school feel by keeping class sizes small and being accessible. Assist in resolving classroom management issues.
Management–Manage 2 office staff positions and 5 faculty members. Provide support and feedback in informal and formal meetings. Provide a team atmosphere where freedom of ideas and creative thinking are encouraged. Share ownership with the team and provide positive feedback but maintain expectations for the team sake. Include as many stakeholders, office staff and faculty in decision making regarding curriculum and the AGI program in general.
Curriculum Development– Create and update curriculum as needed by the changing workforce in agriculture. Work with Dept Heads to ensure faculty loads are suitable, scheduling across departments works, programs are assessed and or new and revised courses. Ensure that core courses (Writing and Math) meet standards for transfer.
Fund Raising– Typically spend two days a month traveling to visit alumni and stakeholders. Follow up with thank you and emails. Attend Foundation events as invited by Dean and Director such as fall meeting. Engage alumni in as many events as possible… recruitment, guest speaking, serving as internship hosts, Soldier to Ag file trip hosts. Etc.
AGI Club and AGI Ambassadors and DTA-Rotate advisors and officers to avoid burn out. Meet with officers to make sure a program plan is in place each semester. Over the next year we need to fill out -Agri- Life paperwork for the AGI club to be a legitimate club.
